Singer-songwriter Hattie Oates floods with raw emotion and passion in new single, ‘Waste My Time’.
Minimal layers in production put greater emphasis on guitar and voice, keeping the ballad to its original form.
“This song is about the emotional journey you take when ending a relationship,” said the 17-year-old.
“And then getting to the other side, where you suddenly see all the wasted time you spent stuck in the past with them, instead of just moving on.”
‘Waste My Time’ has tones reminiscent of Adele and Dean Lewis.
It comes just three months after the release of Hattie’s single, ‘Used To Be’, which featured on a number of acclaimed playlists including Spotify’s ‘New Music Friday AU & NSW’, ‘Indie Arrivals’ and ‘Women in AU & NZ’.
“For me, the most important part of a song is truth. There is something so powerful about when an artist can draw on real emotions and share it with others,” said Hattie.
“Everyone has had this type of feeling before. Music is about being vulnerable and sharing personal experiences, while also giving it a context that makes it relatable to others.”
The single was produced by Luke Bertoz and mastered by Ben Feggans at Studios 301.

ABOUT HATTIE
With a soul well beyond her 17 years, Hattie Oates is a hot home-grown Australian music talent. Her sound is as unique as it is strong and memorable; reminiscent of Nora Jones and Amy Winehouse, Hattie’s voice appeals to the core.
“Growing up in rural Australia, where it doesn’t rain for years, when it does it’s a flood that destroys communities… I guess you absorb a lot of heavy emotion from a young age, it does make you incredibly resilient I think,” says Hattie on growing up in country NSW.
Based in Loomberah Australia, Hattie found her dedication and love for music at just 10 years old. This passionate singer-songwriter paved her musical path when she taught herself to play the guitar while watching her older brother. A short time later, she discovered a love for singing; the rest is history.
Gifted with a musical ear, Hattie has an amazing ability to flip cover songs on their head to re-create and make her own. ‘Waste My Time’ follows the release of Hattie’s single ‘Used To Be’ in March 2021. Listen to Hattie Oates on Spotify.
