PRESS RELEASE: How Infrared Sauna technology is helping an Australian Leukaemia surviver, who was given only three months to live.

Lauren Krelshem, 29 year old who lives in Armadale, Melbourne, was first diagnosed at 7 years, then relapsed at age 13 and again at 20. That’s when doctors gave Lauren only three months to live.

Lauren was the first recipient outside the US to receive CAR T-CELL therapy which aided in her miraculous recovery. The therapy works by removing a patient’s immune cells, sending the cells back to the US to be genetically modified to be ‘normal’ disease fighting cells and then simply planting them back into Lauren’s immune system.

Now seven years on, emerging actor Lauren is now cancer free, but not pain free. “Every day since has been extremely tiring dealing with an unpredictable mix of anger, sadness and mental burnout. I knew I needed to remain strong in front of the doctors, just so they would allow me to go home and see my dog.” Lauren says.

Balancing her mental, physiological and emotional health has been a difficult aspect of the recovery process for Lauren. She visits the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre once a month for treatment, as well as visiting Ally McIntyre, owner of Calma Spa in High Street, Armadale. Infrared sauna’s consistently and reliably increase core body temperatures, which has been known to weaken and damage cancer cells over repeated treatments, and make them more sensitive to radiation and certain cancer drugs as well as boosting general immunity. Combining sauna sessions with hands-on massage and wellbeing treatments has helped Lauren with her body recovery; too much activity, she gets sick, so it’s a great way for her to relax and balance her energy reserves from the years of ongoing side affects and pain.

“Ally McIntyre and the staff at Calma Spa have been a wonderful support to me. They
understand why I need the Infrared treatments and support my continued recovery to feel human again. Thanks Ally and your amazing team.” Says Lauren.
