PRESS RELEASE: Locally Made, Now Recognised: Wilson Heat Pumps Earns Higher Solar Homes Rebate Recognition

Wilson Heat Pumps has officially joined the list of manufacturers recognised under Victoria’s Solar Homes Program for meeting local content criteria. Three Wilson Heat Pump models: WHPS-160A, WHPS-250A, and WHPS-315A are now eligible for the program’s higher hot water rebate of up to $1,400, effective 15 July 2025.

The recognition reflects Wilson’s commitment to Australian manufacturing, quality assurance, and low-emission innovation at a time of rapid transition across the hot water sector.

“As a family-owned business with over 95 years of manufacturing history, we’re proud to see our heat pumps recognised under the Solar Homes Program’s locally made incentive,” said Mark Padwick, General Manager at Wilson.
“It’s a win for local industry and for every household choosing smarter energy solutions.”

The Solar Homes rebate complements broader government efforts to replace gas hot water systems with electric alternatives. According to a federal report released by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, the number of hot water heat pump installations in Australia has increased more than fourfold since 2019, with Victoria now leading the nation in uptake.

“Households are embracing electric heat pump systems because they offer long-term cost savings and environmental benefits,” said Padwick.

“This rebate makes it even easier for families to invest in systems that align with Australia’s emissions reduction goals.”

“Drawing on more than 90 years of hot water expertise, Wilson heat pump systems are designed to meet strict Australian standards. Featuring locally manufactured tanks engineered for Australian conditions, these systems deliver lasting performance and efficiency.

Wilson’s heat pump systems use up to 75.6% less energy (in Temperature Zone 1) compared to conventional technologies. They operate with low‑global‑warming‑potential refrigerant (R-290), helping to reduce end‑of‑life emissions, an area of growing focus in national heat pump policy.”

Mark says product stewardship matters.

“Our systems are designed to last, and we’re committed to refrigerant responsibility, extended warranties and circular economy planning.”

The higher rebate applies when eligible Wilson models are quoted and installed from July 15, 2025, and appear on Solar Victoria’s approved product list.

Wilson Hot Water started in 1930, manufacturing low pressure water heaters for residential homes. Word of our robust design (a product we still make) soon got around and a whole range of industries came knocking on our door. Demand was fast, the company grew quickly and Wilson’s reputation for getting the job done was born. Fast forward 90 years and Wilson is now a team of over 35, including engineers, tradespeople, shopfloor employees, sales and administration staff. Wilson’s hot water heaters have been put to the test in both commercial and residential environments, giving the current range of products a deserved reputation for reliability and endurance.
