PRESS RELEASE: Macarthur Anglican School Rises to the Top: Celebrating 2024 HSC Success
Macarthur Anglican School, located in south-western Sydney—a region often underestimated for academic excellence—has once again proven that determination and quality education can rival the achievements of Sydney’s elite schools. For 40 years, Macarthur has championed a holistic approach to education, combining rigorous academics with co-curricular opportunities to foster strong character formation in its students.
The 2024 Higher School Certificate (HSC) results highlight this successful approach to education with Macarthur ranked 78th in the overall HSC rankings out of over 800 schools. Among the 97 Year 12 graduates, 32% achieved ATARs above 90, and 56% scored over 80, solidifying Macarthur’s reputation as a school of excellence.
Ryan Watson emerged as the school’s Dux, achieving an outstanding ATAR of 99.80 and ranking 1st in the state for Indonesian Continuers and Indonesian Extension. Alongside him, Grace Sun placed 5th in NSW for Visual Arts. Ryan, Grace, Lilly Ferrari, and Jacinta Johnson earned the coveted title of All-Round Achievers for achieving Band 6 results across 10 or more units of study.
The school’s success extended beyond academics, with students appearing 113 times on the Honour Roll and 14 students recognised for their creative talents in prestigious NESA showcases, including Art Express, ENCORE, SHAPE, and ONStage.
Reflecting on his HSC journey, graduate Charles Atkin said, “Macarthur’s teachers create an environment where collaboration is valued over competition. Their feedback and guidance were instrumental in helping us perform at our best.” Fellow graduate Brajden Johansen added, “Macarthur’s supportive and judgement-free culture made all the difference in navigating the challenges of Year 12.”
Dr. David Nockles, Headmaster of Macarthur Anglican School, attributed the results to the school’s focus on a balanced education. “Students who engage in both academic and co-curricular activities tend to excel, not just in their studies but in their personal growth. These outstanding results reflect our commitment to educating the whole person, preparing them to lead and serve in their chosen careers.”
With a school motto of “Enter to Learn and Go Out to Serve,” Macarthur graduates are equipped with the skills and character to make meaningful contributions to their communities. “Our students consistently defy expectations,” said Dr. Nockles. “Their achievements are a testament to their dedication and the unwavering support of our teachers.”
As Macarthur Anglican School celebrates these remarkable results, it continues to inspire its students to believe that excellence knows no boundaries—regional or otherwise.
