PRESS RELEASE: Munjed Al Muderis and Osseointegration International Support Tread Setters Film

Osseointegration International (OI) and Professor Munjed Al Muderis are proud to support the upcoming film Tread Setters, a documentary about a group of para-cyclists who attempt to ride the White Rim Trail in a day. The film, which is directed by Louis Arévalo, will highlight the challenges and triumphs of living with a physical disability and the power of adaptive sports.

“Tread Setters is a powerful story about overcoming adversity,” said Professor Munjed Al Muderis the founder of OI. “The film will indirectly help to raise awareness about osseointegration, a revolutionary surgical procedure that can give people with amputations the ability to walk again. We hope that Tread Setters will inspire others to pursue their dreams, regardless of their physical challenges.”

Tread Setters follows four para-cyclists as they prepare for and attempt to ride the White Rim Trail, a challenging 100-mile off-road course in Canyonlands National Park.

The White Rim Trail is unique in that it starts with a decline and ends with an incline, making it one of the more difficult trails to ride. This challenging terrain was made even more difficult by the heavy rain that fell two nights before the ride. The production crew and four cyclists had to navigate the slippery, muddy trail. However, they are determined to complete the ride and show the world what is possible.

The four adaptive cyclists in the film are Annijke Wade, Josie Fouts, Roger Withers, and Steven Wilke.

The film is also supported by the National Ability Center (NAC), a non-profit organization that provides adaptive recreation and outdoor adventures for people of all abilities. The NAC is located in Park City, Utah, and is the home base for the Tread Setters team.

Tread Setters is currently in post-production and is expected to be released online in early 2024. It has been selected to screen at several film festivals.

Osseointegration International designs and markets the Osseointegration Prosthetic Limb System (OPL). The OPL system is made up of multiple components. The core implant is made of high-tensile strength titanium with a highly porous titanium coating, providing both initial stability as well as long-term bone integration (in-growth). The unique properties of the titanium coating allow the bone to grow into the surface of the prosthesis, which makes the bone-implant structure one solid unit.
