Murray Rose “Malabar Magic” Ocean Swim, Sunday 16th February 2025
Bringing the joy of swimming to children with a disability

11 February 2025, Sydney: The 17th annual Murray Rose Malabar Magic Ocean Swim is on for another lap on Sunday, 16th February 2025, and is set to be another occasion of fantastic community spirit, athletic challenge and support for a vital cause.
Headlining this year’s event will be Olympic Champion Bronte Campbell in her capacity as Malabar Magic Ambassador. She will be swimming in the 1km event, meaning all participants will have the chance to take on an Olympic champion in open water!
The picturesque Malabar Bay in Sydney’s eastern beaches will once again host the Magic on Sunday 16 February. This year, over 1,500 enthusiastic swimmers are expected to tackle the 1km, 2.5km, and 5km courses.
The Malabar Magic serves as the principle fundraiser for the Rainbow Club, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing swimming lessons, water safety education, and social participation opportunities for over 2,400 children and young adults with a disability each week. The Rainbow Club currently operates 77 clubs across NSW, QLD, and the ACT.
Event Ambassador and Olympic Champion Bronte Campbell said: “I’m totally pumped to be a part of the Malabar Magic. It’s not just a great open water swim; it’s a wonderful celebration of community and a super-important cause that brings the joy of swimming to children with a disability. I’m honoured to be part of it and can’t wait to hit the water.”
Long time Race Director, Rob Lloyd OAM said: “The Malabar Magic has become a blue riband mainstay of the open water swim series in Australia thanks to the unwavering support of our incredible swimmers, donors, volunteers, surf lifesaving crews, Randwick Council, and the extraordinary Malabar community.
“Every year, the funds we raise help more children with a disability to learn and experience the joy of swimming. The Rainbow Club leaves a lasting impact, and we are very grateful for the contribution that so many swimmers, be they individual or corporate, make every year.”
Mayor of Randwick, Councillor Dylan Parker, affirmed the council’s support: “Randwick Council is proud to continue its support for this inclusive community event at beautiful Malabar Beach. We welcome all swimmers to the beach and commend the Randwick Rainbow Club for their invaluable work at the Des Renford Leisure Centre.”
