New BIA and Revolve Recycling Partnership Shows Bike Stores Cutting Costs Through Green Wheels
Sydney, Australia — In today’s tough economic climate, every business is looking for ways to save. Bicycle Industries Australia (BIA) has partnered with Revolve Recycling to deliver Green Wheels, an accreditation program proudly presented by the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA), that is helping bike stores reduce waste and cut costs.
Over the past year, 54 bike stores have taken part in Green Wheels and seen measurable benefits: lower bin costs, more space in workshops, and stronger engagement with customers. Collectively, these stores have diverted 1,500 tonnes of tyres, tubes, metal, e-waste and parts from landfill — equal to an average of 85 tonnes per store. They have also restored 845 bikes, avoiding a further 65 tonnes of waste.
‘Bikes are a fantastic, cheap, green transport solution, but the way we manufacture, sale and service bikes can have a big impact on how clean and green for riders and retailers. The BIA supports projects that improve the sustainability of the industry, both financially and the environmentally.’ said Peter Bourke, CEO of Bicycle Industries Australia.
On average, a bike store generates 6 tonnes of waste per year. By adopting the simple actions outlined in the Green Wheels playbook, stores can divert around 1.5 tonnes from landfill annually, lowering disposal costs and future-proofing their businesses.
‘This isn’t theory — we now have a full year of data,” said Guido Verbist, General Manager of Revolve Recycling. “Across the 54 accredited stores, we’ve seen a consistent reduction in both waste volumes and costs. Green Wheels is proving that smart waste solutions deliver bottom-line results.’
The new partnership with BIA will extend the program’s reach, ensuring more stores across Australia can access practical tools, accreditation, and recognition through the Green Wheels Online Directory.
The partnership will be formally celebrated at the Sea Otter Summit, 21–23 October 2025 at Bay Pavilions, Batemans Bay NSW.
