How do you escape the man you love?

At a time when narcissism in men and domestic violence are frequently highlighted in the media, ‘Happiest in Denial’ is a novel that shows women don’t have to be victims; that they have the power to bring about change for themselves and for others.

This tale follows a young, naïve Mia Fidelio from the age of 18 to the ag e of 45. As a young woman, she meets the man of her dreams or “so she thinks”, falls madly in love, marries him and confronts life’s challenges; some expected some shockingly unexpected and soul-destroying.

It is Mia who bears the brunt of their life’s dramas, as she tirelessly supports everyone around her; from her children to her husband, running the house and juggling her career, forgetting her own needs in the process. As she ensures everything is running smoothly, she never has time to step back and look at what is going on around her.

Because she doesn’t see how bad their marriage is, she doesn’t see that their relationship is broken. Slowly and imperceptibly, her life becomes more difficult.

Mia’s world is shattered as Wolfgang’s sadistic true nature slowly emerges, causing her to question everything about her marriage, her future and even her sanity. How much pain can she withstand at the hands of her “soulmate”?

How much is she prepared to accept in the name of love? What will she sacrifice to save her marriage?

This is the authentic portrayal of the day-to-day and societal pressures that keep women trapped in toxic relationships. It is the story of Mia’s gradual enlightenment. This is her journey of resilience and perseverance, which took all her courage and strength to discover the woman she is and the price she had to pay to reclaim her dignity and her life.
