PRESS RELEASE: Nominations for 2024 Sidney Sax Medal now open!

Nominations are now open for the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association (AHHA)’s annual Sidney Sax Medal.

The Sidney Sax Medal, established in 1986, is awarded to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the development and improvement of the Australian healthcare system in health services policy, organisation, delivery, and research (excluding clinical research).

‘This is an opportunity to recognise someone who embodies the qualities of the award’s namesake, Dr Sidney Sax,’ says Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association (AHHA) Chief Executive Ms Kylie Woolcock.

Dr Sidney Sax was effectively Australia’s first health planner and played a key role during this period in the development of Medibank, our first universal national health insurance scheme, along with Professor John Deeble.

Nominations for the Sidney Sax Medal are now open and close on Monday 2 September 2024.

The 2024 Sidney Sax Medal will be awarded during a lunch presentation, coinciding with the 2024 John Deeble Lecture and Panel Discussion, which will be held this year at the National Museum of Australia in Canberra, ACT on October 15th.

Nominations can be made via a digital form, and key considerations used in assessing Sidney Sax Medal nominees include:
– A contribution which is above and beyond what could be considered expected of the job functions performed;
– A contribution which has had a lasting and significant positive impact on the Australian healthcare system and/or the health of Australians and
– An individual who can be characterised by their modesty, dedication and focus on achieving a healthy Australia, supported by the best possible health system.

The digital nomination form and this media release are both available via the AHHA website: https://ahha.asn.au/nominations-for-2024-sidney-sax-medal-now-open/
