PRESS RELEASE: On Valentines Day share the love! Say thanks to our frontline healthcare workers and shout ‘em a free coffee.

Feed Our Medics has been providing nutritious meals and support to frontline healthcare workers in NSW hospitals for two years: since the COVID 19 pandemic began.

On Valentine’s Day next Monday they want to help struggling cafes by paying them to serve exhausted nurses, clinicians, and hospital cleaners a free coffee.

It’s a great idea and a win win! The chosen cafes will get some much needed income, the public get an easy practical way to say thanks, and our exhausted healthcare workers get a bit of a morale boost.

Feed Our Medics is organising the ‘Say Thanks Free Coffee Day’ – on Valentines Day, 14th February at:

• Liverpool Hospital
• Westmead Hospital
• Campbelltown Hospital
• Blacktown Hospital
• Royal North Shore Hospital

And for any early media opportunities: Royal Prince Alfred Hospital this Thursday 10th Feb-ruary.

Simply donate $5 or more to Feed Our Medics, and they’ll do the rest on your behalf.

They’re also providing free lunches for 250 staff in five of the hardest-hit hospitals this week in the lead up to Valentines Day to show the nurses, clinicians, and cleaners that the public cares.

Co-founder of Feed Our Medics, Joeline Hackman said this morning, “We’ve just reached a milestone by delivering our 2,000th meal and we have another 250 meals lined up this week. The reaction from nurses of gratitude has been heart warming and very touching.

“Frontline nurses and medics have been working in high-risk and uncomfortable situations for two long years. The surge in cases since the arrival of Omicron, the opening up of our businesses and the gap in people getting their booster shots has created a perfect storm for them. They are short-staffed, overwhelmed and exhausted. The free meals and coffee are a practical way to help nurses access easy nutrition and a pick-me-up; it’s a small symbol that demonstrates that people care about them, and want to thank them. It really brightens their day to find a fridge full of food or that the public is paying for their coffee.

“The cases we are getting in E.D. are more complex than ever before. Paediatric presenta-tions are increasing and we are working extremely long shifts with up to 200 patients for 1 staff specialist. We are touched by the kindness of the community in wanting to show their thanks,” said Sarah, a registered nurse from a public hospital.

“I hope the public will go to the ‘Feed Our Medics’ Go Fund Me page and shout ‘em a cof-fee or two. It’s 100% tax deductible and gets delivered within the week. When you think about what they’ve done for us, I think it’s the least we can do.”
