Queensland Pensioners in their 70’s lose everything in Floods last week, for the second time
Lyn and Ron Butcher of Rocklea have been devastated for the second time, losing their home and possessions. Everything they own is ruined. Their home was flooded a second time, with the same experience in the 2011 Brisbane Floods.
The couple in their 70’s were stuck in their home during this unprecedented weather event over the weekend. They realised as the rain continued that they needed to quickly pack valuable possessions and bunker down with their Neighbour who was on higher ground.
As they woke Sunday they realised they were surrounded by flood water and began look towards a rescue situation.
A complete stranger in a dingy spotted them and brought them to safety early Sunday morning.
They are now residing with their Son, Mark.
The family are organising the clean up and expect that to begin as early as tomorrow.
The couple were simply unable to afford insurance after premiums shot through the roof post 2011, for any properties in flooding areas and therefore have been left with pretty much the clothes on their back.
A close family friend has created a go fund me page to help support the couple to recover and be able to purchase the necessities like fridges and bedding.
Any help towards this fundraiser would be incredibly appreciated by the family.
