PRESS RELEASE: REED strikes double Gold for CRESSTEC at the 2021 Good Design Awards
Sydney, NSW – Monday 20 December 2021 the winners of Australia’s peak international design awards were announced during the 2021 Good Design Awards Week. The Good Design Awards are the highest honour for design and innovation in the country.
The 2021 Good Design Awards attracted a record number of submissions with 933 design projects evaluated by more than 70 Australian and international Jurors
CRESSTEC — REED (Regulating Energy Efficiency Device) received two prestigious Good Design Award Gold Accolades in the Engineering Design and Product Design categories in recognition for outstanding design and innovation.
The Regulating Energy Efficiency Device (REED) is a revolutionary energy saving and leak mitigating technology developed for commercial HVAC-R (heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration). REED was designed around the second law of thermodynamics utilising normally wasted energy to improve system efficiency whilst eliminating refrigerant leaks. A sustainable technology which can significantly reduce emissions.
Ian Nankivell, CEO and Executive Director of Cresstec, commented: “It’s an honour be recognised for our accomplishments by the Australian Good Design Awards, the country’s oldest and most prestigious international awards for design and innovation dating back to 1958. Receiving not just one, but two Gold Awards is extremely humbling and is a credit to the achievements and work of our team.”
“Cresstec’s mission is to help our customers meet the global competitive challenges from rising energy and carbon reduction costs over the coming decades.”
“We do this through the development of novel carbon reducing and energy saving technologies, benefits that are embodied in our world first REED technology for the commercial HVAC-R market.”
“These key core design principles we believe, will add maximum value to our client’s bottom line, regulatory compliance capability and the overall environmental outcomes that business and government are working together to achieve.”
“REED is a game changer, with mass adoption REED’s ability to mitigate refrigerant leaks and save energy, would mean Australia could hit its 2030 emissions targets today.” Ian went on to say.
Brandon Gien, CEO of Good Design Australia said: “Receiving an Australian Good Design Award is testament to embedding design excellence at the heart of a product, service, place or experience. Although 2021 continues to be another challenging year, it is incredibly inspiring to see designers and businesses working together to find innovative, customer-centric design solutions to local and global challenges and to see them recognised and rewarded for their efforts through these prestigious Awards.”
“The importance of embracing good design principles is now more important than ever as many businesses around the world have had to completely re-think their business strategies to remain competitive. The standard of design excellence represented in this year’s Awards is the best I’ve ever seen in my 25 years of running these Awards, an encouraging sign that the design sector is flourishing,” Dr. Gien went on to say.
The Good Design Awards Jury commented: “An exciting innovation with enormous potential benefit. The design is clearly well thought through (cradle-to-cradle, retrofittable, safety, impact of system failure etc). The physical design is highly appealing and appropriate for the type of installations where it will be applied. This is a significant advancement with wide applications that could have a major positive environmental impact. The ability to retrofit to existing facilities is a strong feature of this equipment.” The jury said in conclusion “This is really impressive work and a standout example of good design in this category that deserves to be recognised. Well done.”
