PRESS RELEASE: Research reveals chicken is the most popular ‘go-to’ midweek dinner

With the average Aussie eating 49 kilograms of chicken each year (Australian Chicken Meat Federation), chicken continues to be the top meat-protein of choice. New research by Ingham’s reveals the go-to midweek meals Aussies are cooking.
Ingham’s commissioned Bread and Butter Research to undertake five in-depth two-hour focus groups with Sydney shoppers across a mix of age groups to discuss how they plan and prepare meals.

Chicken and mince were found to be the dominant midweek proteins because they’re affordable, versatile, quick to cook, relatively healthy and everyone likes them.

The most popular weekday meals being prepared and plated by Aussies are:

CHICKEN-BASED MID-WEEK MEALS
1. Chicken breast with sauce and vegetables or salad
2. Schnitzel, nuggets and burgers
3. Chicken skewers
4. Stir fry
5. Wraps
6. Chicken pasta bake
7. Barbeque chicken from the supermarket: hot roast chook
8. Chicken-based curries

MINCE-BASED MID-WEEK MEALS
1. Spaghetti bolognaise
2. Tacos and burritos
3. Shepherd’s pie
4. Meatballs
5. Lasagne

OTHER MID-WEEK GO-TO’s
1. Home-made pizza
2. Salmon fillets
3. Other pasta dishes
4. Slow cooker throw togethers
5. Sausages
