PRESS RELEASE: Robinson River Store to Transition to Local Management, Empowering Community Ownership and Employment

2025 marks the end of a 20-year partnership in which ALPA has managed the store on behalf of the Mungoorbada Aboriginal Corporation.

In response to this change, the Corporation’s Board has carefully explored various options for the future management of the store. After thorough consideration, the Corporation has made the decision to take direct control of the store’s management.

Mungoorbada CEO, Carrie Altamura said “The Board’s decision reflects a strong commitment to fostering community ownership and empowerment. By taking over the management of the store, the board aims to ensure that the local community is actively involved in all aspects of the store’s operations.”

“Furthermore, the board is committed to creating more employment opportunities for local residents, giving them the chance to contribute to the store’s success and growth.” She said.

The ultimate goal of the Corporation is to transform the store into a genuine community-run operation, where the community feels a strong sense of pride and ownership. The store will not just be a place to shop but will serve as a hub for community engagement and involvement.

The board envisions a store that reflects the values, needs, and aspirations of the local community, with active participation from residents in its management and decision-making processes. This vision aims to create a sustainable, community-driven future for the Robinson River store.
