PRESS RELEASE: Safety First at Adelong Mine Site
In further signs of an imminent re-start at the Challenger Mine in Adelong, NSW, planning, safety and environment are a primary focus.
Speaking directly from the mine site, Great Divide Mining’s (ASX:GDM) CEO, Justin Haines advised that planning and submissions for recommissioning the mine were well advanced.
“GDM have rebuilt the Mine Safety Management System,” said Haines, “we’ve developed a new Forward Works Program, and a new Mine-site Rehabilitation Plan.”
“These will be lodged with the NSW Resources Regulator, for review and approval,” said Haines.
“It’s good to have our work reviewed and tested,” he said ” nothing is as important as the safety of our workers on-site, and nothing is as important to Adelong as the safety of its community members working at the mine, and the safety of the broader Adelong community and its’ environment,” said Haines.
Mothballed for over 8 years, the Challenger Mine will be restarted in-line with updated mining regulations, legislation and standards including compliance with The Mining Act NSW of 1992, the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and the Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum) Act 2013.
“It’s important that we’re not only seen to be compliant with legislation, for workplace health and safety and our community legacy, it’s important that we are in fact compliant and more,” said Haines.
“We have a saying at GDM:- Plan Twice, Perform Once,” said Haines.
“The very best place to identify a shortcoming is in the planning stage,” he said.
“We’re doing this one right,” he said.
“I can’t wait for that first Gold pour,” smiles Haines.
