Slow Rail Journeys is delighted to announce that it will operate the Vinelander to Mildura over the 2024 King’s Birthday weekend. The epic six-day Slow Rail Journey will visit Mildura and the Sunraysia with guests having the privilege of being a part of history travelling on the first Standard Gauge passenger train to Mildura as the Vinelander makes its proud return to the Sunraysia on this six-day not-to-be-missed Slow Rail Journey.
The Vinelander will journey from Melbourne through the green plains of southwestern Victoria, skirt the Grampians and explore the goldfields before striking north across the flat plains of the Mallee to the vast arid expanses of Outback Victoria.
Guests will spend two days immersing themselves in this spectacular region including enjoying Slow Rail Journeys’ signature Outback Explorer tour featuring a number of bespoke activities.
The train will travel between Melbourne and Mildura over two days. On the first day, it will depart Melbourne passing the port city of Geelong before crossing the Southwestern plains to Ararat and then continuing through the scenic Pyrenees region to Maryborough.
Upon arrival in Maryborough guests will be transferred to the luxurious RACV Goldfields Resort. Day two sees the train run north through Donald to Woomelang where a lunch stop will be made at the historic Woomelang Hotel before continuing to Ouyen and Mildura. Guests will spend three nights at the upscale Mercure Hotel in Mildura before retracing their steps onboard the Vinelander to Maryborough and Melbourne..

On Standard Gauge we operate seating cars with Platinum and Gold Class. All fares are fully inclusive of all meals, accommodation, touring and transport.
Mildura Local Train Rides
Slow Rail Journeys has a strong commitment to sharing Victoria’s rail history with the regions we visit. As such there will be opportunities over the King’s Birthday weekend for local guests to board the train for a short ride from Mildura Station to either Yelta or Carwarp.
Fares
Fully inclusive fares start from $400 per person per day depending on the class of travel.
