PRESS RELEASE: STATEWIDE AWARENESS INITIATIVE BREAKS RECORDS

A record-breaking 57 landmarks across Western Australia will shine purple on March 26 for Purple Day, raising awareness for Epilepsy WA and showing solidarity with those affected by this common neurological condition.

Each year, Purple Lights 4 Epilepsy WA highlights the 1 in 25 Western Australians who will develop epilepsy in their lifetime, as well as the 1,500+ new diagnoses made each year.

Prominent sites in Perth, including the WACA, Kings Park, Parliament House, Council House, and Elizabeth Quay, will be illuminated, alongside regional locations in Albany, Bunbury, Kalgoorlie, Manjimup, Geraldton, Northam, and Karratha, in this powerful statewide health awareness initiative.

Epilepsy WA CEO Emma Buitendag emphasized the impact of the event:

“Seeing landmarks light up purple provides comfort to families and individuals facing the challenges of epilepsy, as well as to those who have lost loved ones to the condition.”

In Albany, local mum and The Darcy Effect founder Kate Mitchell expressed her excitement about the community’s support:

“Epilepsy WA was there for me when my son was diagnosed. Breaking the stigma around epilepsy is crucial, and I’m thrilled to see Albany and the entire state turning purple to raise much-needed awareness for epilepsy.”
