PRESS RELEASE: Steel Blue Hits Heartwarming $2 Million in Breast Cancer Care Fundraising

Perth, Australia – May 2025 – At Steel Blue, we’re not just about making top-quality safety boots; we’re about making a difference. From May, we’re bursting with pride to announce an incredible achievement: we’ve officially raised over $2 million for Breast Cancer Care WA! This isn’t just a number to us; it’s a testament to 18 years of unwavering support for Australians navigating breast cancer, all powered by our iconic pink and purple Southern Cross® Zip Ladies boots.
Since the very beginning of this journey, $10 from every pair of these specially designed boots has been donated directly to Breast Cancer Care WA. Funds raised provide specialised breast care nursing, financial support and counselling to those affected by breast cancer, and their loved ones.
“To hit the $2 million mark for Breast Cancer Care WA is something truly special for all of us at Steel Blue,” said Peter Bell, CEO of Steel Blue. “Our long-standing partnership has been incredibly important in ensuring that vital services reach the people who need them most in our community. We’re so proud of what we’ve achieved together.”
Max Clarke, CEO of Breast Cancer Care WA, emphasised just how critical this funding is right now: “Over the last five years, we’ve seen a 60% increase in the number of clients we assist, growing from 1,200 to 1,900 annually. This surge truly highlights the overwhelming need for our services and underscores just how vital our partnership with Steel Blue continues to be.”
Beyond the dollars, our initiative aims to start important conversations about breast health. Every pair of our pink and purple boots includes a small shower tag, serving as a gentle, daily reminder for individuals to perform regular breast checks. This simple tool has proven incredibly effective in encouraging proactive health measures within the trades community.
In a heartfelt tribute to a true pioneer, Dr. Ros Worthington, the inspiring founder of Breast Cancer Care WA, our beloved pink and purple Southern Cross® Zip Ladies boots will now be known as the “Ros Worthington” boots. “Dr. Ros was a guiding light of care, respect, and integrity; an outstanding example for us all,” said Ross Fitzgerald, Steel Blue Founding Director and Sales Director – APAC. “It is a true honour we can continue her legacy through this initiative.”
And because empowering women in trades is so close to our hearts, Steel Blue has also partnered with Empowered Women in Trades (EWIT). This collaboration is all about supporting women and non-binary individuals pursuing careers in trades, while also reinforcing the vital message of regular breast checks. “Steel Blue’s ethos to empower women with the right work boots, combined with the Breast Cancer Care range, aligns with EWIT perfectly,” said Melinda Davies, General Manager of EWIT. “Together, we are making a significant impact for our tradies.”
