PRESS RELEASE: Swing Set: A Bold New Aussie Comedy Embracing Midlife, Love and Everything In Between

An empowering and entertaining new film exploring ageing, love and identity — now inviting investment and brand partnerships to help bring this story to life.
May 2024 – There’s a new Australian comedy in the works and it’s not playing it safe. Swing Set is a sharp, cheeky and emotionally honest look at love, sex and self-worth in midlife. It’s the kind of film that makes you laugh, cringe, nod in recognition and feel seen.
Currently in development and actively seeking investors and supporters, Swing Set follows Garry and Tracey, a couple in their 40s who have hit the plateau of a long term relationship. But one impulsive visit to a swinger’s party sparks an unexpected journey through attraction, identity, awkwardness and everything in between.
Yes, it’s funny. But it’s also about something. At its core, Swing Set is about embracing the new normal within ourselves, our bodies and our relationships. It speaks directly to the 40 plus crowd who have lived, loved, maybe lost their groove and are ready to get it back without shame and with a sense of humour.
Behind the film is a top tier Australian team. Producers Yolandi Franken (Streets of Colour, Carmen & Bolude) and Jonathan Page (The Babadook, Animals) team up with screenwriter Stephen Davis (Blurred, Monkey Puzzle, Drown) to tell a story that is raw, real and genuinely relatable.
“With Swing Set, we’re not just making people laugh, we’re giving them permission to laugh at the messy, beautiful reality of middle age,” says Franken. “It’s time we saw characters like this on screen, honest, awkward, resilient, still growing.”
The team is currently pursuing Byron Bay as the ideal filming location. Its vibrant creative community, progressive spirit and stunning natural backdrops make it a perfect match for the film’s themes of reinvention and connection. The broader Northern Rivers region has become a magnet for filmmakers seeking fresh perspectives and lifestyle-driven storytelling. For Swing Set, it offers not just a beautiful setting but the chance to support local talent, generate regional employment and embed the project within a community that champions bold, independent voices.
The production already has Australian and New Zealand distribution confirmed, along with an international sales agent representing the film globally. This provides a strong launch platform and added confidence for investors.
Right now, the producers are opening the door to a limited group of investors, sponsors and supporters. Whether you are looking to come in via equity, brand placement or a 100 percent tax deductible donation, there is a way to get involved and to align with a film that is bold, timely and built for impact.
“This story has bite, but it also has heart,” says Davis. “It’s for everyone who has ever looked in the mirror and thought, ‘Wait… is this it?’ It’s warm, it’s hopeful and it’s funny as hell.”
