PRESS RELEASE: Tasmanian Social Enterprise Wins Telstra State Award for Accelerating Women in Construction

Hobart, Tasmania. EPIC (Empowering People in Construction) has been named State Winner in the “Accelerating Women” category of the 2025 Telstra Best of Business Awards, recognising its national leadership in transforming culture, safety, and equity across Australia’s construction industry.
Selected from nearly 21,000 entries nationwide, EPIC now joins the top 53 businesses in Australia to compete for the national title in Brisbane this November.
Founded by Angela Hucker, who began as a construction labourer almost 30 years ago, EPIC has grown into a purpose-driven social enterprise tackling the toughest challenges facing the sector, including harassment, bullying, discrimination, and burnout.
“To be named a State Winner is an incredible honour,” said Angela Hucker, CEO of EPIC. “This award recognises the impact we’re making, not just for women in construction, but for the future of the industry itself. Culture change isn’t optional anymore, it’s essential for retention, safety, and wellbeing.”
Through AI-powered adaptive learning targeting psychosocial hazards, combined with inclusive-leadership coaching and peer-support programs, EPIC helps companies build workplaces where people feel respected, valued, and safe, supporting compliance with Australia’s Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act and Safe Work Australia guidelines.
EPIC was also named a State Finalist in the Embracing Innovation and Building Communities categories, reflecting its belief that lasting progress in construction comes from both technology and human connection.
As demand grows for skilled, diverse, and mentally healthy workforces, EPIC’s work is helping the industry attract and retain talent, and showing what’s possible when inclusion and innovation go hand in hand.
EPIC will represent Tasmania at the National Telstra Best of Business Awards, held in Brisbane from 18 – 20 November 2025.
