PRESS RELEASE: Teddy Bears Set to Take Over City2Surf

Charity group Have Bear Will Run are gathering another ‘Bear Pack’ to tackle the City2Surf later this year. The team of runners and their bandaged bear pals will take on the world’s largest fun run to raise funds for children who have battled cancer.
Sydney’s famous City2Surf 2022 will kick off on 14 August. Runners will journey from Hyde Park to Bondi Beach with the Have Bear Will Run mascot, the Bandaged Bear, with them the whole way as is the tradition.
The Bear Pack are running to raise funds for The Lucian Page Scholarship, a fund supporting young cancer survivors to accomplish their educational goals. They have already almost reached their target of $2000 after just four weeks of campaigning and one very generous donation.
Have Bear Will Run is a registered Australian Charity that provides scholarships for young people battling cancer who wish to pursue tertiary or further education. The organisation has taken on many outdoor adventures spanning Australia and overseas.
The charity has a long history with endurance running. Founder, David King, began the organisation several years ago after running a marathon in every Australian state and territory with the Bandaged Bear strapped to his back. King was inspired to help cancer-surviving students “chase their educational dreams” when working at the Westmead Children’s Hospital.
The scholarship was named in honour of Lucian Page, who lost his battle to cancer when he was five years old. Now in its seventh year, the Lucian Page Scholarship has raised over $40,000 and assisted youths to follow their dreams. Past recipients have gone on to become Nurses, Zoologists, Vets, Construction and Biomedical Engineers.
Donations for the Bear Pack’s City2Surf 2022 campaign can be made via the group’s mycause fundraising page mycau.se/have-bear-will-run-city2surf until August.
