PRESS RELEASE: The Magic of Makers – Curiosity Leads to a ceramics studio near you
Curiosity leads to a ceramics studio near you.
Over the last few years, ceramics has captured people’s hearts. We love clay! More people are taking pottery classes, restaurants are using locally made tableware, galleries are showing ceramic art and artists’ markets are brimming with colourful and quirky ceramic creations.
Australian Ceramics Open Studios (ACOS) is an initiative of The Australian Ceramics Association and its passionate members. Now in its 12th year, it’s the only national open studio event, and with 200 studios participating, it’s also the largest! In almost every state and territory potters and ceramic artists open their creative spaces to give visitors a glimpse into their practice and a chance to buy a unique piece.
For our members, connection with clay runs deep, and many spend a lifetime unravelling its mysteries. So come and meet them! You’ll be inspired and grounded all at once, and the magic of the maker’s hand will stay with you in the beautiful work you see or take home.
Search the open studio directory and find a local potter near you! From converted city warehouses to regional farm sheds and everything in between, participating studios will have demonstrations, kiln firings, great conversation and warm hospitality. Some studio groups make their own local trail for you to follow. Some host workshops!
Australian Ceramics Open Studios runs on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 November, 10am–4pm, with studios opening for one or both days. Approaching Christmas, it is the perfect antidote to hectic present gathering! Slow down and enjoy the experience.
