PRESS RELEASE: Tour Guides Australia launch from amalgamation

Guiding Organisations Australia (GOA) and the Professional Tour Guides Association of Australia (PTGAA) have finalised their amalgamation to create Tour Guides Australia. The peak body supporting the Australian Tourism Industry deliver internationally recognised standards for Tour Guides.

Tour Guides Australia’s role is to engage the industry to deliver professional standards for Tour Guides through education, accreditation, and support. Individual Tour Guide’s, or those seeking to become a Tour Guide, can apply for membership across various categories. Tour operators and organisations employing Tour Guides or Interpreters can seek recognition for their team with Tour Guides Australia. This recognition and accreditation will be via evidence of work experience, existing training programs and regular performance reviews.

“There is a great opportunity right now for further collaboration within the Australian Tourism Industry to promote and improve product excellence. Our vision is ‘Iconic Destinations, World Class Tour Guides’. Since 1985 we have focused on supporting independent Tour Guides. However, we can only truly deliver on our aspirational vision by working with industry participants that place Tour Guides out in the field,” said President of Tour Guides Australia, Jim McInerney.

Tour Guides Australia is a full member of the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations and will continue to be the leader in the independent accreditation of Tour Guides in Australia, with ongoing member support in education, professional development, advocacy, and career support.
