PRESS RELEASE: What Happens When the Forecast Gets it Wrong: Why Fire Safety Can’t Wait

Australia’s summer forecast is starting to shift, with forecasters now warning the season may not be as wet as first predicted. For those on the front line of fire safety, that change is more than an update: it’s a call to action. With dry soils, rising temperatures and unpredictable winds still threatening communities nationwide, preparedness and quick access to fire protection equipment remain the most dependable defence.
According to the National Council for Fire and Emergency Services, below-average soil moisture across southern and eastern regions has primed large areas for fire despite the possibility of extra rainfall. Add stronger wind events or patchy rain, and a single ignition could move faster than forecasts suggest.
Ali McGovern, General Manager and Co-owner of FIREX, Australia’s largest 24/7 Click & Collect network of certified fire protection equipment, has built a nationwide distribution system designed to keep technicians supplied and communities protected when time matters most.
More than 50,000 technician visits have demonstrated just how critical after-hours access has become in a climate where every minute counts.
“Technicians don’t stop working when the doors of other suppliers close,” said McGovern.
Meteorologists also concede that long-range forecasts carry margins of error. While the Bureau has reported it expects a wetter summer, local variability will continue to produce drier and more fire-prone conditions in parts of New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland.
“Even in years described as wet, we can see extreme heat, erratic rainfall and wind shifts that catch people off guard.
By making certified fire protection equipment available 24/7, we’ve removed one of the industry’s most significant pain points, waiting until it’s too late.”
McGovern added that whether this summer turns out wetter or drier than expected, FIREX is there when needed, because when safety can’t wait, access shouldn’t either.”

FIREX stocks certified fire protection products, ranging from extinguishers and alarms to hose reels, hydrants, and emergency lighting, all of which are accessible within minutes. Once an order is placed, a PIN code is sent directly to a technician’s phone, giving instant access to what they need. The model saves technicians in travel and downtime, cutting operating costs and improving readiness for emergency callouts.
