PRESS RELEASE: Samaritan’s Purse Responds To Super Typhoon Goni In The Philippines

Sydney, NSW, 10 November 2020 – Samaritan’s Purse is providing emergency relief to thousands of displaced families after Super Typhoon Goni devastated the Philippines with wind speeds reaching more than 220kph. The storm struck just days after Typhoon Quinta swept through the nation. The storms caused widespread destruction, triggering disastrous landslides and flash flooding across the Bicol region. More than 46,000 families have taken refuge in evacuation and access to food and relief supplies is a critical concern.

“Parts of the Philippines have been completely decimated by this Super Typhoon. On top of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the people there are in desperate need of assistance,” said Dan Stephens, Disaster Response Manager of Samaritan’s Purse Australia. “Samaritan’s Purse is bringing critical relief to people in need – reminding hurting families that they are not alone.”

The international relief organisation is working through local church partners to distribute shelter kits, family kits, hygiene and COVID-19 preventative kits – including washable face masks, face shields and soap – to families in the Catanduanes province of the Bicol region. Samaritan’s Purse will help hurting families recover while reminding them that they are not alone or forgotten.
