PRESS RELEASE: New Illawarra Ocean Swim Club launches at Coalcliff in 10 days

Coalcliff Surf Lifesaving Club will introduce a regularly scheduled ocean swim for members at Coalcliff Beach beginning Sunday, 9 October 2022, at 11 am.

The Coalcliff Ocean Swim Club is an exciting new community initiative by the club that will be inclusive and welcome community members who want to practise their ocean swimming in a friendly environment.

“The ocean swim club is open to Coalcliff Surf Lifesaving Club members and the community with the launch of a new Coalcliff Ocean Swim Club membership category,” said James McFarlane, President of Coalcliff Surf Lifesaving Club.

There are 13 scheduled club swims, and there will be several distances for participants to choose from on the day. The club will provide full surf lifesaving support to participants wearing brightly coloured swim caps and determine the course on the day.

Coalcliff Ocean Swim Club dates are:

October – 9, 16 & 30
November – 13 & 27
December – 11 & 18
January – 29
February – 12 & 26
March -12 & 23
April – 2

The focus will be on participation rather than competition. While the swim club offers an excellent opportunity for participants, another key benefit is that it will provide Coalcliff patrolling members with additional regular practice throughout the season to maintain core skills and build capacity within the club.
