Cusack’s Furniture to close after 108 years of service to the ACT Region
After more than a century serving the Canberra community, Cusack’s today announced the business will close later this year.
Founded in 1918, Cusack’s Furniture is one of the longest running continuous businesses in the Canberra region and has remained family owned throughout its history. Across generations, it has become a familiar part of the local retail landscape, serving customers from across the ACT and surrounding region.
The business has remained strong, however after careful consideration, the Cusack family has made the decision to close the family-owned business as the next generation of the family pursues opportunities outside the retail sector.
The business will continue to trade until the end of October 2026. All permanent staff will be supported through this period, with transition arrangements and redundancy packages consistent with their tenure.
Managing Director Peter Cusack, who has been with the company for more than 40 years, said:
“The Cusack family is incredibly proud of the 108 years we have spent supporting our customers and contributing to the ACT community. My grandfather founded this business on a small corner in Yass, NSW, and over the years it has grown steadily while remaining true to its local roots. It has been a privilege to serve our customers and community for more than a century, and we are immensely proud of the legacy we have created over that time.”
Mr Cusack expressed his gratitude to customers for their long standing trust and support, and acknowledged the contribution of staff, past and present, whose dedication, commitment and professionalism has shaped the company’s reputation over many decades.
Details regarding the closing timeline and any final sale events will be shared in the coming weeks. Until then, it remains business as usual at Cusack’s.
