PRESS RELEASE: 9000 survivors of child abuse celebrate their healing

9,000 Survivors of Childhood Trauma Celebrate Their Healing
Unique Hunter Valley Charity Reaches 25 Years of Transforming Lives
Survivors of childhood trauma have found that trauma and mental illness no longer need to be a lifetime problem.
This Saturday, the Heal for Life Foundation at Mayumarri celebrates 25 years of helping survivors of childhood trauma to heal. Over 9,000 men, women and children have experienced loving support and healing through the Foundation’s unique week-long trauma healing program.
Opened by Sir William Deane the Governor General of Australia, this centre was the first of its kind in Australia. Its groundbreaking program has since expanded globally, with established centres in the Philippines, England and a new centre opening in India next year.
The centre offers hope to people suffering from the impact of childhood trauma, including those struggling with addictions, mental illness and behavioural issues.
Hundreds of people who have trained and volunteered at the centre have gone on to work as psychologists, social workers, counsellors and in other areas of mental health, helping to bring about a changed attitude to survivors of childhood trauma.
Liz Mullinar AM, the founder of Heal for Life and ASCA (now called the Blue Knot Foundation) says: “we celebrate that we can heal permanently from childhood trauma, I love my work and watching the change in people”
“I was suffering from debilitating from fibromyalgia and after healing with heal For life, I am now happily living a normal carefree life, I am profoundly grateful, nothing else had worked, it was healing from childhood trauma that made the difference” Kelly Trafford
Mayumarri provided a huge tool of understanding and education to begin my inner self journey of healing recovery and discovery, it was so profound I changed my life and trained as a support person. This gave me the confidence to help others to begin their own process of healing.” Allison Ewens
Heal For Life was not only life changing for me but also lifesaving. As a survivor of severe institutional abuse and trauma I spent most of my life as a narcissist on the wrong side of the law fighting addictions such as alcohol, drug and gambling to name a few. HFL helped me understand the effect of trauma on the brain. Since coming to HFL I not only completely changed my lifestyle, relationships but am very proud of the person I have become, accepting responsibility for my own actions and helping others wherever I can. I am now the Vice Chair of FACT (Forgotten Australians Coming Together) and have repaired many damaged relationships”. Dale Lynch
Heal For Life gave me the framework to understand the impact of what I survived, and to release the fear and shame giving purpose and meaning to my life, understanding who that really is. I have been working at Heal For Life as Trauma Counsellor for 3 years having originally been a student on placement, volunteering on Kids Kamp, Teen camps, and Co-Facilitating Adult Healing Retreats. Heal For Life completely changed my life, and continues to. D. Coleman.
“After years of searching Heal For life has helped me reach the root cause of all my problems” “Counsellors in the past failed to do so” Steve Cassidy

These and many others are happy to be interviewed, hoping to encourage others to heal.
