PRESS RELEASE: Australian Clinical Trial Confirms Heated Gloves Reduce Raynaud’s Symptoms

A randomised clinical trial presented at ACR Convergence 2023 has provided the first formal evidence that heated gloves significantly improve Raynaud’s symptoms in patients with systemic sclerosis.
Raynaud’s condition where fingers and toes temporarily lose blood flow in response to cold temperatures or stress affects between 5 – 20% of the population with many sufferers going undiagnosed.
The study, led by Dr. Kimti Kumar and colleagues in Australia, found that heated gloves reduced Raynaud’s symptom scores by 1.51, decreased mean attack frequency by 0.64 , and shortened mean attack duration by 37 minutes.
“For fifteen years, our customers have reported how much heated gloves help with their Raynaud’s symptoms,” said Scott Weekes, Manager at Zarkie. “When Dr. Kumar’s team requested gloves for their research, and we were eager to support the clinical study of this intervention.”
The trial’s results exceeded expectations, showing not only reduced symptom severity but also fewer daily attacks—an outcome we hadn’t initially predicted.
Building on these findings, Zarkie is developing medical gloves specifically designed for Raynaud’s phenomenon, arthritis, and temperature-sensation disorders. If you are interested in contributing or would like more information, please reach out to us at [email protected].
