PRESS RELEASE: Ceramics studios open around Australia for Australian Ceramics Open Studios 2025

Over one weekend in November, ceramic artists and studios nationwide will open their doors for this year’s Australian Ceramics Open Studios (ACOS) event. Held on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 November, close to 170 studios will share their love of clay through demonstrations, conversation and work for sale. Follow an inner city studio trail or take a day trip to the country! You are sure to be inspired.
Making with clay is part of the human story from ancient times – and it’s thriving in Australia right now. Pottery classes are more popular than ever, restaurants are using locally made tableware, galleries are showing ceramic art and design markets are brimming with colourful and quirky ceramic creations.
‘Visitors are looking for a hidden experience.’
‘We held mini workshops, plus had studio members on the wheels so visitors could watch.’
‘Visitors were interested to see photographs of my kiln and hear about how the work is woodfired’.
‘I was handbuilding a large piece during the weekend.’
Open Studios Participants
These ceramic artists are all members of The Australian Ceramics Association (TACA). In its 70th year, TACA is a not-for-profit, grassroots organisation that seeks to elevate ceramics in Australian culture. It has published The Journal of Australian Ceramics for over 60 years, and provides opportunities for members to promote their work, educate themselves, and connect with the lively ceramics community around Australia.
Get a glimpse of their daily practice and take home a unique, handmade piece with a story to share. It’s a special opportunity to chat with the maker and learn more about the material and skill involved in this practical and sculptural craft.
‘I often find I have more authentic exchanges with people who have taken the time to come and visit me. They ask all sorts of questions that you wouldn’t normally get in a chance encounter in somewhere like a market. I have gotten to know a lot of my local community, neighbours that had no idea that I was here with my studio and arts practice before they saw the sign and came to visit.’

The Australian Ceramics Association acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and First Nations Peoples’ connections to land, sea, and sky. We recognise that sovereignty was never ceded and that we are on stolen land. We pay our respect to Elders past, present, and emerging, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders who engage with the Association, our events, and our programs. As we gather to listen and speak we are doing so in the home of one of the longest continuous cultures of shared oral storytelling, material wisdom, and artmaking on this planet.
