PRESS RELEASE: Tour operator enhances blind and low-vision tennis tournaments for athletes on the Australian championship circuit

Cocky Guides, a tour operator that specialises in providing unique, multisensory adventures for the blind and low-vision community, answered the call from Tennis Australia to create and deliver a post-tournament experience for their athletes participating in the recent 2024 Northern Territory Blind & Low Vision Open.

After the tournament held at the Darwin International Tennis Centre on 31 August and 1 September 2024, Cocky Guides took off on a three-day adventure highlighting the multisensory elements of the Top End that included the national parks of Kakadu, Nitmiluk and Litchfield.

Tournament competitor Scott Dann says, “I like to explore destinations where we compete, but this can be challenging as a traveller with low vision. Cocky Guides provided that missing link, and their tailored group tour enabled me to experience places beyond Darwin that I couldn’t on my own.”

Tennis Australia’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Pathways & Event Specialist, Ben Dew, says, “It’s a real benefit to encourage tournament participation in new events around Australia by engaging Cocky Guides who have connections to the blind and low-vision community, plus many visitor economy businesses across Australia. An athlete can now participate in our tournament and experience the destination with Cocky Guides beyond the game. That is a real benefit for the players and the local economy!”

Right now, Cocky Guides has its sights on Kangaroo Island as the post-tournament destination for the 2024 South Australian Blind & Low Vision Open, an event being held at the Tennis South Australia, North Adelaide, from 29 November to 1 December 2024.

This four-night tour to Kangaroo Island departs Adelaide on Monday, 2 December 2024. Interested in joining this post-tournament adventure? Visit www.cockguides.com.au/tours or email [email protected]
