Before You Dig Australia Launches Oceania’s First Digital Utility Portal, Paving the Way for Global Leadership in Utility Safety

In an Oceania first, Before You Dig Australia (BYDA), in partnership with global technology provider Reveal, has launched a breakthrough Digital Proof of Concept (POC) that positions Australian utilities as global leaders in digital safety and underground asset protection.
This innovative platform digitises the entire process formally known as dial-before-you-dig —creating a real-time, spatially represented, and fully automated connection between asset owners, locators, and contractors. The result: a faster, smarter, and safer way to manage underground infrastructure across the construction and utility sectors.

Calling for Industry and Government Support
BYDA is calling on industry leaders and both state and federal governments to support the next phase: a national digital portal that improves safety, reduces costly utility strikes, and drives productivity across construction and infrastructure delivery.
“With the support of industry and government, we plan to move to a commercial pilot in the second half of 2025,” said Mell Greenall “This is about more than innovation—it’s about building a safer, more efficient future for every Australian who works around underground infrastructure and could return $800 million to the economy per annum in efficiency gains.”

The Portal also helps position Australia for regulatory readiness, supporting the much needed transition to a national “no plan, no dig” mandate by embedding digital coordination into every excavation workflow.
